While Saffas are still trying to wrap their heads around the Vivo X300 family, China marches on. Vivo is reportedly gearing up to reveal the Vivo X500 series over there as soon as September. FYI, the Chinese are notoriously suspicious of the number four. It may have skipped a generation, but it’ll pack the usual upgrades.
Beyond just knowing the family exists — the X500, X500 Pro, and X500 Pro Max — we’ve got a rough idea of what they’ll bring to the table. It’s doubtful that South Africa will get to see the entire lineup when it inevitably comes here next year, but we can dream.
Viva la Vivo
Well-known leaker Digital Chat Station hasn’t revealed everything, but their intel has given us a whole lot to work with. Like the fact that the Vivo X500 will still rep the massive camera bump seen on the X200 Pro and X300 Pro. Or at least, the X500 Pro and Pro Max will have one. The regular X500 will be a little more traditional.
Flip it ’round, and the X500 should have a 6.59in display, while the Pro has a slightly smaller 6.37in screen. The Pro Max lives up to its name with a 6.85in display. Both ‘Pro’ models will feature more rounded corners compared to their predecessors. Don’t expect much in the way of a design overhaul elsewhere, though.

It’ll likely be just as much of a glassy hunk as its older siblings. A glassy hunk with a 2nm SoC — likely the Dimensity 9600 in the case of the X500 Pro and Pro Max. The chip inside the cheaper X500 is still unconfirmed, though we know it’ll be built on the 3nm process, leading us to believe it could well be the Dimensity 9500.
As ever, Vivo’s flagship series isn’t camera-shy. An older rumour pins the X500 Pro as having a 50MP main camera using a 1/1.28in-type LOFIC sensor. It should be accompanied by 50MP ultra-wide and 64MP periscope shooters. The Pro Max would mostly match the Pro, except it would trade up that 64MP shooter for a 200MP one. Vivo rarely skimps on battery life, and with a reported 7,000mAh cell inside, it doesn’t seem like that’s changing.
