Having money to pay for stuff is cool, but not having to pay for stuff is even cooler. With the rising cost of video games, we’re confident most folks would agree that a free game is a good thing. It doesn’t matter if you don’t play much or have any interest in said game. There’s something about claiming a freebie that scratches a particular itch. You might not want to play it now, but that could change in the future.
On the other hand, hearing you’ve missed out on claiming a freebie can sting, even though you haven’t really lost anything — like when you forget to claim your two free games on Epic every week.
Even worse than that is finding out you missed a game you’ve had on your wishlist that was free for a while, or had a big discount.
What if we told you there were ways you could ensure you never missed out on a free game (on Epic or Steam) again?
Free games, you say?
Some of those ways are a little more complicated than others. If you frequent Discord, you can set up a bot that will alert you to new free games. But that requires more than a few clicks to get going. IFTTT could also prove useful, as could regular visits to IsThereAnyDeal.
How about an Android app you install and forget about that sends you a notification whenever a game on Steam or Epic is free to keep? That’s exactly what someone made after missing on a free copy of Borderlands 2.
“A year ago, Borderlands 2 became free-to-keep on Steam, but I missed it, so I created an app to ping me when a Steam game become free-to-keep and shared it with others,” they wrote in a post on the r/pcmasterrace subreddit.
And so, Steamletter was born. It does exactly what you need it to, without showing you any ads, requiring that you register, or forcing you to accept any intrusive permissions.
Just:
- install it,
- allow notifications,
- select the platforms you want notifications for (currently only Steam and Epic are supported),
- profit
The only catch is that, unfortunately, only Android devices are compatible (blame Apple’s weird App Store policies for that).
