Gaming’s worst-kept secret, AKA the long-rumoured remake of the best Assassin’s Creed game, is nearly here. Well, sort of. According to Insider Gaming, the Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remake, also known as “resynced”, was initially meant to be unveiled yesterday, before Ubisoft corrected course at the last minute. The official reveal is now pencilled in for sometime next week, where it will officially confirm a release date of 9 July 2026.
Ahoy, mateys!
Apparently, Ubisoft has remained wary of unveiling the Black Flag remake for years, and that may all change again next week. The game is definitely real, though. Despite the delay, the report claims that certain media were invited to a 30-minute presentation for the game.
Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson was part of the crowd and was able to confirm a couple of things. For one thing, Resynced is not an RPG, which was a concern for some fans of the original 2013 title. “This remains a solo adventure and character-driven experience. It is not an RPG,” the presentation revealed.

Still, it won’t just be a graphical enhancement. Henderson says that the game has been “completely reworked,” noting that a bunch of new content has been added to the game, on top of the graphical overhaul. We’re personally hoping for those 30-40 trailing missions to be reworked or cut entirely. Whatever ends up being the case, Henderson notes that Resynced looks “awesome.”
Lastly, Henderson also confirmed that the leaked Edward Kenway statue — the one that cropped up right around the game’s original release date — is, in fact, real. No doubt it’ll be tacked on to some overpriced collector’s edition come July, but we can’t deny that it looks… cool. Maybe not R2,000+ cool, but cool nonetheless.
