If you weren’t aware, Apple TV is an official broadcast partner for Formula One in the States. Now, those lucky Yanks will get to watch F1 on IMAX. No, not the whole season, but enough of it to make the rest of the world exceedingly jealous.
The iPhone company is partnering with the folks with the very large screens to bring five races to said screens, live. You’ll need to live near one of the American locations showing these races to attend. Oh, and you’ll need to be quick enough to snag tickets, too. What, you didn’t think it was free, did you?
IMAX racing
Formula One’s race roster for parts of May, June, September, and October this year will be aired live on the super-sized screen. Miami, Monaco, Britain, Italy, and the Austin, Texas races will be showing in “at least 50 IMAX locations” around the US on their respective dates.
The only way to make an F1 experience any better would be sit trackside at Monza or Silverstone so the roar of screaming engines makes you literally deaf. Failing that, a larger-than-life broadcast seems the next best thing.
Apple’s VP of Music, Sports, and Beats, Oliver Schusser, said, “F1 is a rapidly growing force in sports and culture in the US, and by bringing F1 on Apple TV live to IMAX theaters nationwide, we’re delivering the energy and excitement to even more screens in a truly immersive way.”
Now, if they could just bring it a little more in this direction, that would be great.
