Remember Humane’s disastrous attempt to sell an AI-powered wearable pin? Apple clearly doesn’t, because it’s attempting to mimic the technology, this time with a big apple slapped on the front. That’s according to a report from The Information, which claims the Fruit Company has even ramped up development to challenge OpenAI.
Could Apple be the new AI kingpin?

The device would be an AirTag-sized wearable that clips onto the front of your shirt. Equipped with cameras, microphones, and speakers, the pin would ideally offer its wearer information about the world around them. However, whether it would rely on a custom chip or a connection to an ancillary Apple device is unclear.
“Apple’s pin, which is a thin, flat, circular disc with an aluminum-and-glass shell, features two cameras—a standard lens and a wide-angle lens—on its front face, designed to capture photos and videos of the user’s surroundings,” the report reads.

It will utilise three microphones, a physical button, and a magnetic inductive charging interface — similar to that of the Apple Watch — to get its juices flowing. The engineers aim to squeeze all those components inside a device roughly the same size as an AirTag, albeit a little thicker.
Despite reports that Apple is speeding up production to at least challenge OpenAI in the field of AI-powered wearables, The Information notes that “development is in the very early stages and could still be canceled.” If that isn’t the sort of news you like to hear from a supposed leader of the industry, we’re not sure what is.
