Following a soft launch at Comic Con earlier this year, Acer has officially launched its Acer AITV, the company’s first 4K Google TV-based streaming device.
From 1 November 2025, it will be exclusively available from Incredible Connection, Computer Mania, Takealot, and Amazon. It looks like the “exclusive launch price” is sticking around, so expect to pay R1,500 to be one of the first in the world to take one home.
Acer AITV lands in SA first
“We ran a soft launch at Comicon Africa in September to gauge the interest and test a few
concepts as our go-to-market campaign was building and the feedback was incredible!” said Glenn
Du Toit, Country Manager Acer Africa.
As we said when it first launched, this particular model is built around an Amlogic S905X5M Quad-Core CPU, 2GB of DDR4 RAM, and 32GB of storage. That puts it on par with the best TV boxes available.
But what Acer hopes will make its AITV stand out is the inclusion of a 1Gbps RJ45 Ethernet port. This should ensure that latency issues when game streaming are all but eliminated. Another
“We’re incredibly proud that South Africa is the first market in the world to launch the Acer AITV,
this product reflects our commitment to giving South African consumers access to the very latest
smart technology designed to make entertainment, learning, and everyday living more connected
and convenient than ever before,” continued Du Toit.
Similar to other devices, the Acer AITV runs the Android TV-based Google TV OS and is compatible with most of the apps you’re looking to run on your TV. That includes DSTV Stream, eVOD, Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, Showmax, and Prime Video for video streaming. Acer has also made a big deal about gaming performance, with Steam Link benefiting from that 1Gbps Ethernet port.
