Fallout 4, the best release in the series (besides all of the others, which are definitely better), is coming back for another round. Bethesda has yet to release a sequel to its Skyrim cash cow, which means it’s time to re-release work it did back in 2015.
The Microsoft-owned developer is positioning this as an anniversary release, since it’s been ten years since Preston Garvey and the Minutemen decided that what you need is automated generic ‘go there and kill everything/everyone’ quests every minute of your virtual Wasteland day. The company hopes to tempt players back by including loads of stuff — like the Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition doesn’t exist.
Fallout 4’s minimal effort
All six of the open-world adventure RPG’s official DLCs are included with the upcoming release. You’ve already got/played this if you opted for the GOTY version any time in the last decade, but Bethesda is also including work that other folks have done on their behalf.
Included in the refreshed Fallout 4 are “over 150 pieces of Creation Club content, including fan favorites and previously unreleased items designed to enhance your journey.” It’s not all cribbed homework, however. Dogmeat, the Companion that doesn’t care whether you save those cannibals or slaughter the whole bloody lot, will have different breeds available — as if the canine critter wasn’t perfect to begin with. Still, if you’d rather have a different pupper skin (no, not like that), it’ll be an option.
Fallout 4: 10th Anniversary Edition launches on all currently available Xbox and PlayStation consoles (so the Xbox One S/X and the PS4/5), as well as the PC, on 10 November. There’s no mention of whether there’s a visual upgrade in the offing, but hopefully, Bethesda has done something about the stability issues since the game’s original release.
