Did you really think you’d only get to see Samsung’s Android XR headset on the rumoured 21 October reveal date? If so, this might be your first rodeo, and that’s okay. It’s tradition for details about Samsung’s devices to slip through the cracks ahead of time, and that hasn’t changed with the ‘Galaxy XR’ leaking in full.
The leaks, arriving in such rich detail and coming from Android Headlines, only bolster the rumours of a 21 October reveal that could even serve as the device’s official release date. We’ve got a look at official renders, specs, and what could possibly be a real price point. We’ll give you the good news first, though.
Samsung’s taking on the Vision Pro
The Galaxy XR is equipped with two 4K micro-OLED displays, with a 4,032 ppi. Stick ’em together and it’ll dole out 29 million pixels, several million more than Apple and Meta’s own headsets, which hover around the 23 million mark. The device’s refresh rate hasn’t yet been revealed.
Under the hood sits the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2, running Samsung One UI XR. It’ll work with several sensors to keep track of your eyes, hands, and the environment. The latter will be handled by four sensors on the device’s front, while hand-tracking falls to two cameras on the device’s bottom. Four more cameras can be found inside for eye-tracking, though it’s said these are bolstered by AI to increase accuracy.
Judging by the renders, the device looks mightily similar to the one Samsung showed off back in January of this year. It’s difficult to judge comfort from a render, but it’s said that the device is packed with plenty of cushioning to make it as comfortable as possible, weighs roughly 545g, and that the headband is adjustable via a dial.

Despite its hand- and eye-tracking powers, the Galaxy XR headset arrives with two controllers to offer increased accuracy when hand-tracking. They’re also jammed with haptic feedback to up the immersion factor. As for battery life, AH reckons it’ll last roughly two hours of “general use,” and adds an extra half-hour for video content.
None of that will be cheap, with rumours pointing to a pricetag of around $1,800 (∼R31,000). We’ll have to wait until Samsung’s say-so before we can even start guessing when the device will make it to South Africa, if ever. What it’ll cost on this side of the ocean is another matter entirely.
