You know Beyerdynamic, even if you’ve never had the pleasure of slinging one of its headsets around your neck. That might have something to do with our recent reviews of the company’s latest and greatest. Either way, it explains our hype for Beyer’s new MMX 150 and MMX 230 wireless gaming headsets.
A Beyerdynamic duo
Announced at Gamescom, Beyerdynamic grabbed the opportunity 335,000 folks all cloistered together under one roof in Germany presented, and unveiled these new gamer-centric cans. There’s the MMX 150, featuring a detachable mic. Stretch that budget, and the flagship MMX 230 will throw in features like a hot-swappable battery.
The MMX 150 will be available in Q4 2025, available in Arctic white and plain ol’ black for roughly R3,700 (∼€180). That detachable mic is specifically a Meta Voice (Most Effective Tactic Available) microphone, and a generous amount of padding hides the 40mm drivers the 150 employs.
That’s cool and all, but it’s the MMX 150’s 50-hour battery life that’s the star of the show. As a bonus, Beyer has gone to great lengths to make the MMX 150 easily pairable regardless of the device. It’ll hook up to PCs, gaming consoles, and smartphones using a minuscule USB-C low-latency dongle.
The MMX 230 wireless is the one you want, assuming your pocket is big enough to accommodate the R5,200 (∼ €250) price. Also slated for release in Q4 2025, it features 40mm drivers under breathable velour earpads, and ups the battery life to a whopping 60 hours (and this can be swapped out in the heat of an intense gaming session).
It takes it a step further with an ENC (environmental noise cancellation) microphone, the better to isolate the user’s voice and ditch unnecessary background chatter. If you aren’t happy with either headset’s sound profiles, they offer customisable EQs through an app.
Unfortunately, Notebookcheck reckons the Beyerdynamic MMX 150 and MMX 230 are only targeting a release in Canada and Europe for now. We’ll keep our fingers crossed for a South African release eventually, considering the brand’s local presence. Were that to ever happen, expect slightly more inflated prices than the ones you see above.
