Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, hosted by the one and only Geoff Keighley, has officially come and gone. If you didn’t have the energy to sit through two-plus hours’ worth of trailers, bad jokes, and a live performance from Clair Obscur Expedition 33, then we’ve got you covered with all the biggest reveals and announcements from last night’s showing. There’s a whole lot to cover, so without any further ado…
Hollow Knight: Silksong
It finally happened. Hollow Knight: Silksong — the highly sought-after metroidvania sequel — finally got its chance to shine after six long years. Kinda. Only a few hours before Geoff Keighley opened the show with news from indie devs Team Cherry, ahead of Call of Duty, we might add, Team Cherry themselves announced a special look at the game in a post on X, kicking off tomorrow at 16h30 local time.
Still, it paved the way for Keighley to state that Silksong was definitely coming out sometime in 2025, before giving us a brief look at some never-before-seen footage. Gamescom attendees, which opened to the public today in Cologne, Germany, will get the chance to play the game for themselves. We’re not at all jealous, or anything. Expect at least a release date reveal from Team Cherry on its own YouTube channel tomorrow.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7
Like clockwork, there’s another Call of Duty on the way. This time, it’s Black Ops 7, but you already knew that. Activision hasn’t been shy about the marketing for this first-person shooter. Its presence at Gamescom gave us a new look at gameplay, the new co-op campaign, multiplayer, and zombies. You know, the usual Call of Duty schtick. It’s out on 14 November for PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Lords of the Fallen 2
If you needed yet another Soulslike in your life, let it be Lords of the Fallen 2. This sequel to the 2023 action-RPG plops the player down in a distinctly bloody, war-torn world of Mournstead — set 100 years after the original. The trailer, being a CG-fest, proved a bit of a downer, but with a confirmed 2026 release window and the promise of more gameplay turning up later this year, we’re not worried. Coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Onimusha: Way Of The Sword
We got another look at Onimusha: Way Of The Sword’s bombastic samurai swordplay, a whole lot of nightmare fuel, and some pretty rough English voice acting as we’re taken on a tour of Edo-era Kyoto. There’s still no release date planned other than a vague 2026 release window, but we don’t doubt Capcom has cooked up something special here. It’s landing on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight
Matt Berry as Bane. The old Rocksteady Arkham-style gameplay. Oh, and it’s all made out of Lego. With all that going for it, we don’t see how Telltale Games’ rendition of the Dark Knight’s storied history could go wrong. We’re a little worried that combat will boil down to tapping square and triangle a whole bunch, but with an open-world Gotham at our fingertips, we don’t really care. It’s arriving in 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC.
Fallout Season 2
It’s not strictly speaking a game, but Fallout Season 2 gets a pass after that wondrous first season adapted Bethesda’s world down to a tee. Season 2 appears to be continuing the streak, this time inviting watchers to the world of New Vegas. Lucy and The Ghoul (played by excellent Ella Purnell and Walton Goggins, respectively) return as the stars for season 2, landing this December.
Black Myth: Zhong Kui
Game Science is back with a sequel to Black Myth: Wukong, a whole lot sooner than we, or anybody else, expected. Black Myth: Zhong Kui “shares the same foundation of ancient Chinese myth and folklore,” the game’s FAQ reads. Zhong Kui leads this new action RPG soulslike, which is”a ghost-catching god who wanders between Hell and Earth.” If that doesn’t get you excited, we’re not sure what will. It’s coming to all mainstream consoles and PC… sometime.
Resident Evil Requiem
We also got another look at the Resident Evil Requiem, which delved deeper into Grace Ashcroft’s past, who serves as the protagonist for this game. It’s all still a bit mysterious, with Capcom leaving the biggest mysteries up in the air for when the game launches on 26 February 2026. It’s coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Ninja Gaiden 4
We’ve got a new story trailer for the return to the world of Ninja Gaiden. Expect more of the same fast-paced ninja action that the series has been known for, all wrapped up in 2025 graphics. You’ll need to wait until 21 October to get your hands on the next entry from Team Ninja and PlatinumGames on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Death by Scrolling
Coming from the mind of Ron Gilbert (known for the epic Monkey Island series) comes Death by Scrolling, a new pixelated vertically-scrolling rogue-like RPG that sees players attempt to outwit (and outrun) Death while collecting resources on a field that’s constantly hunting you down. There’s no set release date, but you can wishlist it on Steam from now.
