Xbox has discovered that randomly shouting the words “Hollow Knight” and “Silksong“ tends to lead to good things. It proved that when it promised the game would be out by the time it was ready to launch its new ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X. Now it seeks to milk the cow dry, confirming that a new demo is headed for the Xbox booth at Gamescom this year.
Not a Silkpost. Repeat: Not a Silkpost!

In a recent blog post, Xbox detailed all its plans for Gamescom 2025, which is taking place in Cologne, Germany, from August 20-24, noting that it was bringing several games — more than twenty — along for the ride, all of which would be playable if you manage to snag a ticket for the event.
“This year, the Xbox booth will be full of fantastic upcoming games from Xbox and our incredible third-party partners coming to Xbox, PC, and Game Pass this Holiday and beyond – and yes, that includes Hollow Knight: Silksong,” said Maxi Graeff, Xbox’s gaming marketing lead.
Silksong even got a mention ahead of the company’s upcoming Xbox-ified ROG Ally gaming handhelds, on which lucky folks attending Gamescom will have the chance to play the indie metroidvania. Players will also have the opportunity to put the hardware to the test with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4, Roblox, and Sea of Thieves. As for the rest of the demos available on the floor, you’ll need to make do with the more traditional hardware.

While you may not see Silksong in action, Microsoft notes that it’ll be hosting two separate livestreams on Wednesday, 20 August, and Thursday, 21 August. Those will kick off at 15h00 SAST, and feature the likes of the ROG Ally handhelds, Grounded 2, Black Ops 7, Ninja Gaiden 4, and more. Xbox reckons it’ll have a more detailed schedule available on its social media closer to the time.
There’s also a special theatre presentation planned for the now-$70 The Outer Worlds 2 that you’ll need to tune into Thursday’s stream to get involved with.
Silksong’s involvement is certainly the most interesting news of the lot. While there has still been no other confirmation of a release date (other than a brief 2025 release window at the latest Nintendo Direct), this brings the number of hands-on demos for the game in 2025 up to two. First at Gamescom, and second, at the ACMI Game Worlds exhibition in Australia this September.
