It’d be an understatement to call yesterday’s Nintendo Switch 2 Direct a chaotic mishmash brimming with console specs, features, and games that will grace the Switch 2 in the coming months. In a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, Nintendo showed off a whopping three seconds of new footage for Hollow Knight: Silksong with a promise that the game would be out before we hit 2026.

That, coupled with Nintendo’s doubling down on the 2025 release date as seen above, as well as Team Cherry’s head of PR, Matthew “Leth” Griffin, updating his X/Twitter cover image to new Silksong key art, we’re hopeful that this time we won’t be duped with yet another delay. Don’t get us wrong – that possibility is still very much on the table, seeing as how Team Cherry’s last release date passed in 2023.
Despite Nintendo’s insistence on a release date, Team Cherry, the minute team behind the original Hollow Knight and its successor, has yet to make any official updates to its blog discussing the new footage or the supposed release date. In fact, the company hasn’t made a peep since 2019 in an official capacity.

There’s always the possibility that Team Cherry could make an appearance at one of Nintendo’s two scheduled Treehouse livestreams, where fans will get deep dives into some of the games coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. The first of these, taking place later today at 16h00 SAST, will comprise four hours of gameplay footage, while the second, going live on Friday, 4 April, will feature at least three hours of footage.
Finally, eager Silksong fans can feast their eyes upon four never-before-seen screenshots of the game, courtesy of the game’s landing page over on Nintendo’s website. As u/SilkMyth put it: “Team Cherry will do ANYTHING but share news with us directly.” We’ve thrown one of those in below:
