German car manufacturer Volkswagen is making its first big move this year with the launch of a new entry-level Golf sometime in the first quarter. The new model has an improved infotainment system and more efficient driving systems.
Physically, the new Golf has a sharper front- and rear-end design along with redesigned brighter headlights. It comes in four different forms: the Life, Life +, R-Line, and R-Line equipment lines.
Volkswagen tees off the new Golf
The Golf Life model features a wireless app connection for its ten-colour infotainment panel, as well as a six-speaker sound system. It sports efficient Eco LED headlights and rides on 16in Norfolk alloy wheels. The Life + steps it up with five different driver modes, a rearview camera, and more extensive dashboard colour options.
The R-Line model justifies is price with a multi-function heated steering wheel with progressive steering and sports suspension. Climatronic three-zone automatic climate control technology allows different temperature settings for different zones within the vehicle. Rear controls, keyless entry, and Park Assist with Park Distance Control round out the standout features of the R-Line, which sits on 17in Coventry alloy wheels.
The R-Line + adds IQ Matrix LED headlights which, VW says, have a range of up to 500m in case you feel like being a menace to other drivers at night. Its wheels are 18in alloy and it also has what Volkswagen claims to be the Golf’s first illuminated logo. The interior features power-adjustable seats with Vienna leather upholstery, and stainless steel paddles.
This should be cause for celebration for many, as one of SA’s ultimate status symbols is getting a more affordable model. Volkswagen South Africa has confirmed the local prices. If you want the cheapest Life model, it’ll cost you R580,900. The Life + is R604,500. The R-line Golf costs R660,000, and the R-line + is R688,100. The range hits South African dealerships in the coming months.
