We’re getting that Bloodborne remaster, one way or another. Yesterday, that sentence would’ve been construed as nothing more than speculation and idle dreams. Today, it holds a little more weight after rumours came to light that Sony was interested in acquiring “media powerhouse” Kadokawa Corporation, owner of From Software.
Those stem from Reuters which reports that the PlayStation-owner is currently in talks with Kadokawa, according to two people familiar with the matter. Reuters doesn’t mention who those two people might be, though Sony declining to comment on the story didn’t help matters, and only added to the story’s validity.
2 Blood 2 Borne?
From Software, if you weren’t aware, are the visionary developers behind classics such as Bloodborne, Dark Souls, and most recently, Elden Ring – the DLC of which just nabbed itself a Game of the Year nomination. Kadokawa, however, has fingers in all the biggest pies, technically speaking.
The deal is reportedly “ongoing” although its conclusion may be reached as soon as the next few weeks, the sources said. This would add to the 2% Sony already owns in Kadokawa, on top of the 2% stake it owns in From Software. Reuters doesn’t mention numbers, but we’d be willing to bet it comes in way under Microsoft’s Activision deal.

On top of Kadokawa’s biggest claim to fame, it also owns several other gaming platforms, mangas, film studios, and anime adaptations – the most famous of which are Sword Art Online, Overlord, and Re:Zero. Should the deal go through, Sony could position itself as an instant top dog in the arena, only bolstering its monopoly.
This would add to Sony’s already large stake in the anime world, which consists of the largest anime streaming library in the world, Crunchyroll – a service that was rolled into Sony’s acquisition of Funimation back in 2021. Sony’s completion of this deal would only hand it a stronger grip over the industry, and possibly do more harm than good. But hey, if it means we get to see a Bloodborne remaster or even a sequel?
