You’ve seen the headline. You’ve seen the image above. Try and contain your excitement until you can find the nearest bathroom. Planetworld, Sonos‘ official South African distributor, just announced it is bringing in the Roam 2 in “more than just the usual black and white” colourways we were promised when the portable speaker was initially announced.
Don’t cry, Sonos raises you three new hues
Those are ‘Sunset Red’, ‘Wave Blue’, and an “exclusive” ‘Olive Green’. It’d be incredibly wrong of us not to warn any potential adopters that Planetworld reckons “there are VERY limited quantities that are coming in,” meaning you’ll need to be quick on the keyboard if you’re serious about sticking one in your cart.
Even more important to mention is that the Roam 2 is more of a cosmetic upgrade than anything major taking place under the hood. Sound is untouched compared to the original Roam, featuring the “same rich, detailed sound and bass with the clarity, depth, and fullness you’d expect from a larger speaker.”

The company has at least fiddled with the battery life, thrown in an improved control layout and generally simplified set-up. If you forewent Sonos’ efforts in 2021, there’s no doubt the Roam 2 is the definitive model to get – especially if you nab one of those limited-edition skins.
Those willing to stomach the R4,500 asking price can expect the Roam 2’s fresh hues to turn up sometime in mid-September 2024. It will only be available from three retailers; Takealot, e-piphany, and Digital Experience. Whether it’s going for a more civilised pre-order approach or instead leaving customers to a free-for-all at the tills remains to be seen.
