German auto brand VW has all sorts of high-tech ideas. NFTs and EV battery recycling are just two of these, but the folks at VW Norway are either really smart or really bored.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles in Norway has unveiled an EV of a completely different sort. It’s really compact, has limited range, and only moves at 20km/h. That would be awful if it was an actual car but it’s an office chair. Office chairs usually don’t move at 20km/h unless their owner was just fired and the chair was lobbed out of a high-rise window in frustration.
VW moves into the office space
The point of an electrified VW office chair is, obviously, to promote EVs in general. To that end, the company made its chair extremely similar to its vehicles. It’s packing headlights, includes a seatbelt (because safety first), and even has rims of a sort.
Around back, the offbeat office equipment actually has a boot. It’s not much, being large enough to fit a laptop and maybe a notebook or two. There’s also a tow-hitch in case users need to move massive amounts of documents. We’re sure you could also tow a few of your less motorised colleagues around the office. Just for kicks.
Other features? A rear-view mirror, heated seats, side-mounted sensors, indicators, and a radio. Sure, why the hell not?
As to whether you’ll ever own a VW-made office-bound EV, never say never. The chair itself will travel around dealerships in Norway. Visitors can check it out and take it for a test drive. There don’t seem to be plans for a retail version of the strange little EV, but anything can happen.
