Applications are currently open for Sasol’s all-inclusive bursaries for 2023. Sasol said it would be on the lookout for students that perform especially well in the field of mathematics and science. If you think that might be you, Sasol invites you to apply for the bursary to continue in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). So get moving, now. No, really. There are only 200 of them up for grabs.
There’s pocket money?
This isn’t Sasol’s first foray into the bursary world. Sasol has been handing these out for more than 30 years now, choosing the best and brightest SA has to offer. It’s one of South Africa’s largest bursary sources, with around 387 bursars currently enlisted in the program.
Being part of the programme means your tuition fees are covered, along with accommodation, meals and textbooks. The bursary won’t cover all your textbook fees, deciding first on an amount before accepting the bursary. Pocket money is mentioned too, which probably more than covers the student’s share of the textbooks. Lastly, allowances are given for equipment such as laptops and calculators. Time to get yourself the Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 SE. And if Sasol won’t cover that particular laptop, the bursary also covers psychological and social support to help students through their studies.

The 200 bursaries for next year will be awarded to people in three different sections.
- Students currently at University studying cyber security, electronic engineering, mining engineering and chemical engineering. These are all eligible to apply for a bursary.
- Students heading toward the STEM fields will be considered. Special favour will be passed if the career you’re pursuing is engineering & technology, mathematical and data science, agricultural science, environmental & medical sciences, construction & manufacturing; and financial and accounting sciences.
- Non-STEM bursaries are awarded to children of Sasol employees and Sasol Khanyisa shareholders. This could be seen as an incentive to join the Sasol workforce – do STEM so your kids won’t have to.
If you’re interested in applying, you can do so here. More information can be found on Sasol’s site right here.
