We’re less than a month away from the hotly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto VI, and the question many have had on their minds has been answered. Grand Theft Auto is on track to be one of the biggest games of all time, and the supposed 210GB file size (on PlayStation 5) confirms that. Prep your drives accordingly, folks.
Say goodbye to a quarter of your console’s storage
The news comes from X user PlayStation Game Size, who typically isn’t wrong when it involves their namesake. Insider Gaming later corroborated the 210GB file size, warning users to start prepping. What with the rumours of Grand Theft Auto review codes being sent out to outlets, Insider Gaming could be speaking from experience.
There is one way to mitigate the massive download and ensure you’re ready to dive in on 19 November. Those who pre-order GTA (starting at R1,500) can begin the download as soon as 12 November. Doing so will allow those with poorer internet speeds to catch up with the rest. Heck, even those with decent speeds should consider it — the PlayStation and Xbox stores are likely to struggle under the load and could slow things right down.
Surprisingly, Grand Theft Auto VI isn’t the biggest game on PlayStation. A couple — Ark and Call of Duty –– push well past the 210GB mark. It somewhat makes sense that Rockstar skipped a physical launch here. It would’ve required at least three Blu-ray discs.
Of course, this is the base game. Install size is subject to change in the build-up to the release, as well as updates down the line increasing that number. Word through the grapevine is that GTA VI will get its Online mode sometime in 2027. Good luck finding an affordable storage solution before then.
