DStv’s package changes were known as far back as the beginning of September this year. Next up, DStv Select subscribers face some serious temptation from MultiChoice. Select customers (there are terms and conditions) are the first to get a week’s free access to DStv Sports.
Other package tiers will follow before the end of the year, according to the TV provider, but this hinges on the success of MultiChoice’s test. What constitutes ‘success’ wasn’t explained, but we’ve got a few good guesses.
DStv Select your fighter
From today, Select customers “who pay month to month, in full and on time” will nab seven days’ access to the Sports package. While active, those subscribers have full access to DStv Sports. Once the seven-day window ends, which starts at the beginning of the subscription period, subscribers revert to previous settings.
Part of MultiChoice’s announcement reads: ” The benefit will roll out to other DStv packages, should testing be successful by the end of the year.” Success is likely to be measured on MultiChoice’s side. If enough DStv Select customers upgrade to the pricier Sports category, other customers will face similar temptation.
MultiChoice CEO Willington Ngwepe said, “Our new packages were just the beginning. We’ll continue to find ways to give customers more value from their DStv subscriptions, and the customers on the Select package will be the first to enjoy this benefit, with more to come before the end of the year.”
