The worst-kept secret of the year is Apple’s incoming foldable: the iPhone Ultra. Earlier this year, the Fruit Company reportedly ordered ten million of the things, hoping to have them ready by September. That, for the uninitiated, is usually when Apple likes to debut its new flagship phones, and this year will be no different.
Okay, maybe a little different. The company is reportedly withholding the base iPhone 18 ’til next year, set to release alongside the iPhone 18e. That leaves the iPhone Ultra clear to take its place alongside the more expensive iPhone 18 Pro models. Whether you’ll actually be able to get your hands on one at launch is… debatable, though.

According to Digi Times (via GSMArena), the iPhone Ultra won’t actually be ready come September. That’s notable considering the previous rumour claiming it would, in fact, be ready alongside its iPhone brethren. The rumours at least seem to agree on one thing: the Fruit Company will at least unveil the device in September.
The report claims that Apple’s production partner, Foxconn, has run into several issues during the manufacturing process. Those seemingly revolve around getting the foldable’s hinge right, as well as the durability of the screen. It’s still unclear how long the Ultra will be stuck in the labs — if at all — until more concrete rumours come out.
We at least have a rough idea of how the device will look by the time it’s ready. In June, serial leaker Sonny Dickson shared images of the Ultra’s dummy units. There’s always the chance that the Ultra will look slightly different at launch, but the broad strokes — like the squatter shape — are likely cemented in by now.
