We’ve seen Energizer phones in the past, and they’ve often talked a big game. Not quite as big as the company’s new P30K Apex, which may only require a monthly energy top-up. That puts it within range of Nokia’s battery heroes from days gone by. Only, this is supposed to be significantly more advanced.
That’s down to Energizer cramming a 30,000mAh battery into the thing. It won’t be as pocketable as the venerable Nokia 6110, which weighed a svelte 137 grams with its 900mAh battery. We’re not sure what the P30K Apex will weigh, but current power banks matching its specs hover around the 600-gram mark.
P30K Apex predator?
With 30,000mAh at its disposal, Energizer’s phone should last longer than average. The listed specs for the device will prove helpful there, too. A 6.95in 2,460 x 1,080 IPS display, 12GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage make sense. You don’t want to put a literal brick in your pocket (realistically, hanging it on your belt is a better idea) for cruddy storage. A MediaTek Dimensity 7300 gives the phone 5G support. It also won’t hog battery cycles like top-end processors.
The rear camera setup sounds good on paper, too. A 200MP main sensor, a 50MP backup, and a 2MP third (so Energizer can say there are three cameras — also, ToF probably) are present. The front-facer uses a 50MP sensor. How these will perform is debatable; we’ll have to see them in action. Energizer isn’t known for its camera tech choices.
The battery cell demands a rugged frame, and buyers will get one. They’ll also get IP68/IP69K ratings, which they bloody better. The price tag is about right for the spec, if not for the battery size. The P30K Apex is supposed to launch in Europe this June. When it does, it’ll cost R7,800 (€800) to stick one in your protesting pocket.
