Seiko and Sega‘s upcoming wristwatch collaboration won’t make you move as quickly as the game company’s iconic mascot. But you might need Sonic-like reflexes to strap one of these limited edition timepieces to your wrist.
We say ‘might’ because, while these are commemorative pieces and are probably going to be in short supply, we don’t know exactly how many of each model Seiko will produce. But you’ve at least got until the October shipping date to get your pre-order in, with the possibility that purchases from the Japanese store will ship overseas too. You’ll have to make some effort on that score, though.
Seiko is feeling blue
Why would you want one of these? Well, if you’re a Sonic or Sega fan, the answer to that is obvious. The pair of fairly tasteful wristwatches will feature trim in Sega blue, with Sonic appearing on the bezel. (Hint: Check the bottom subdial in the image above.)
Beyond that, whether you choose the black model pictured here or the silver one, both feature the Sega logo and the numerals in Sega’s font on the face, a tachymeter, and 7T92 caliber quartz movement. Waterproofing up to 100 metres. A metal casing and stopwatch functions are also features, but you’re in for a tender wallet if this accessory speaks to you on a personal level.
Pre-order pricing for this Seiko/Sega collaboration is set at ¥71,500, which works out to about R7,500. That’s about what you’ll pay for a similar (though older) Seiko Chronograph in South Africa. But then you still have to ship the thing, and convince customs to hand it over. Still, Sega fans should be willing to make the effort. Gotta go fast, right?
