When you turn twenty, everything gets more expensive. That’s certainly the case for Razer’s 20th anniversary reissue of the Boomslang, its first-ever gaming mouse. We first saw the mouse in December last year, when Razer wisely kept the pricing for the upgraded wireless peripheral concealed.
The pricing is out, and if you want to be one of the 1,337 owners of this limited edition nostalgia cash-grab, you’d best be prepared to drop more than R25,000 for inclusion into the club.
1337 Boomslang
Pricing for the new version of Razer’s oldest mouse has turned up on the company’s German website, which lists the extremely limited Boomslang as costing €1,337. Each. Based on a quick Google translation of the site, it might prove even costlier, since it’s actually listed as “from” €1,337. In South African rands, that’s about R25,380.
Since each of these are numbers and there can only be one truly ‘1337’ Razer Boomslang, it may be that specific number combinations (i.e., just that one) are pricier than the rest. Odds are high that Razer will come out with another version of the mouse at some point — no company likes to leave money in customer wallets — but this run is all about sucking in the superfans with deep pockets and streamers keen on bragging rights.
The ambidextrous gaming mouse features switches rated for 100 million clicks, a maximum DPI of 45,000, thanks to Razer’s upgraded Focus Pro sensor, and a polling rate of 8,000Hz. Is it all worth R25k? Absolutely not. But reliving some old memories, for a certain sort of gamer, might well be.
