Oppo, treading dangerously close to Tesla’s ‘S3XY’ naming scheme, announced the Oppo Watch S was headed for South Africa at the Reno 15 launch in Johannesburg yesterday. The watch, which Oppo brags about being an “ultra-thin” solution at only 8.99mm thick, beats out its still-thin Watch X2 sibling by several millimetres.
It’s time for South Africa
At the time of writing, Oppo has yet to settle on a concrete release date. So far, it’s narrowed it down to somewhere in mid-February for South African shoppers. The price, too, is still under wraps, though the company mentioned it would come in below the Watch X2, which launched in 2025 for R7,000.
When Oppo’s timepiece eventually arrives, it’ll bring with it a 1.46in AMOLED (464 x 464px) that’ll max out at 3,000 nits during a midday run. The 330mAh battery lodged inside is responsible for much of the Watch’s 35g weight that Oppo reckons will net roughly seven days of juice with typical use. We’ll believe that when we see it.

A Bestechnic BES2800BP handles all the processing, while a bunch of sensors allow it to track more than 100 different sports modes. It even includes fall detection, though it notes that there’s “no SOS calls [and] does not support message synchronization with family members.” Makes you wonder why it’s there at all, then.
The Watch S is available in two colours: Phantom Black and Silver Gleam, though South Africans will only be privy to the latter when it turns up. Buyers can expect to pay less than R7,000 for the smartwatch, which is due to arrive roughly a week after the Oppo Reno 15 series lands on 7 February.
