Calling all couch potato rock gods in training — Samsung and Fender have announced plans to bring Fender Play, the music training app that’s supposed to teach you how to wield an axe properly, to the South Korean tech maker’s TV sets in 2026.
The app also works on most smartphones, as long as they run Android or iOS, and can even be accessed via a web browser. But when you’re ass-deep in your comfy couch and your (preferably Fender) guitar and the TV remote are within reach, but your phone or laptop isn’t… this’ll serve to give your fingers a workout. Eventually.
How does that Fender Play?
The launch of Fender Play on Samsung’s TVs is a “world first,” according to the company. This also suggests that other TV makers will eventually get their shot at some instructional musical training. For now, though, Samsung is first in line.
Fender’s app is, more or less, a wrapper for a selection of training videos that are supposed to show you how to play a guitar. Since nobody has time for fundamentals, it leaps rather quickly to learning how to play popular songs — perhaps not the best training method, but one that might let you whip out an acoustic at a campfire without looking like a massive pillock.
Fender’s Cliff Kim said in a statement, “Our mission has always been to educate and inspire players globally and this partnership gives music lovers the opportunity to learn, practice and play with Fender Play’s high-quality, interactive lessons directly on their Samsung TV.”
Keep it up, whether it’s on your Samsung TV or just bumbling around at home, and perhaps one day you’ll learn to play as well as these guys.
The app is set to launch on Samsung’s TVs in the first half of 2026. Supported models and an exact date are unknown, but you should have enough time to snag a pair of Fender’s Mix headphones so you don’t completely annoy the neighbours with your strumming practise.
