If you’re a little ashamed of your Goodreads history in 2025, you can correct course by taking on audiobooks instead. Normally, doing so would require becoming friendly with Amazon’s Audible Premium plan at $15/m (∼R250/m) or your local pirates — but a new deal will lock customers in at R16.40/m for three months.
*Audible gasp*
That’s just R50, if you play your cards right over the three-month period. The trick is to ensure you cancel the subscription before Amazon charges the full price when the fourth month kicks in. Otherwise, there are no strings attached, with returning customers getting in on the deal.
“Audible Premium Plus is $0.99/month for the first 3 months. After 3 months, membership continues at $14.95 a month charged to your Visa card ending in…” reads the confirmation screen.

On top of the single audiobook subscribers are allowed to claim every month (to keep forever), they also get access to the ‘Plus’ catalogue, which offers “thousands of titles”. We should note that these are only available to stream, not download, while your subscription is active, and cannot be kept once cancelled.
To take advantage of Audible’s rare bout of generosity, you can head here to sign up for the deal — before 21 January 2026. Don’t let the $ figures fool you — this deal is open to all South Africans at R16.40/m. We’d recommend checking out the new full-cast editions of Harry Potter — which would normally set you back $10.
