Here in South Africa, we mostly know Dreame in relation to its range of smart vacuum cleaners and other smart products, though it’s obvious that the Chinese brand has more than just gadgets on its mind. Well, there’s another device to add to the list of stuff the company makes: Meet the Air Power 17.
If the name and the official visuals above haven’t clued you in, the Air Power 17 is a dinky little power bank intended for use with Apple’s products. Specifically, the iPhone 17 and the other devices released alongside it. Sadly, the Air Power 17 has only been announced for China so far, but we reckon it won’t be long before the desire for more money sees it appearing elsewhere.
Isn’t it Dreame?
There are two versions of the Dreame Air Power 17 inbound. Both are the same basic size (103 x 58.4mm), with the 5,000mAh edition of the power bank measuring 8mm thick to the 10,000mAh model’s 12.8mm. That’s plenty low-profile enough to let users keep them handy, especially since the Air Power 17 also integrates a little kickstand in the battery’s body. You can top up while keeping an eye on the messages on your display.
We’re a bit less thrilled by the power bank’s performance. It’ll charge phones up to 15W wirelessly, and it proffers speeds of 5W to compatible wearable devices. If you’re not availing yourself of the magnetic functions, a USB-C cable connection increases charge speeds to 20W. But it’s stylish and works with Apple products, so the user base may be inclined to forgive something as minor as charging speeds.
This same USB-C port acts as the charging input for Dreame’s battery, with LED lights in the body showing how much charge remains to be filled (or drained).
Perhaps more attractive is the Dreame Air Power 17’s price. Despite looking like something from Apple’s catalogue, it retails in its native China for a little over R500 (¥219). A similar price here in South Africa could see the device selling well among the Apple-a-day folks.
