For every step forward DStv takes, it takes two in the other direction. Not only are four channels disappearing from the DStv catalogue at the end of the year, but MultiChoice also sent out an email (via MyBroadBand) informing customers that twelve channels under the Warner Bros. Discovery umbrella are on the chopping block.
Is Discovery headed for the door?
First, MultiChoice confirmed that Paramount Africa would shut down two channels in the new year — BET Africa and MTV Base. That’ll take place at 09h00 on 1 January 2026, with DStv and GOtv ditching the channels entirely at the same moment, leaving nothing to fill the gaps. “Our customers can continue to enjoy other international channels from Paramount, including Nickelodeon, NickToons, Nick Jr, Comedy Central, and MTV,” it stated in a communication.
This purge also includes CBS Reality and CBS Justice, with the shutdown taking place on 01 January 2026, as the clock strikes twelve. MultiChoice mentioned (via Hypertext) it was “preparing to further strengthen and enrich [its] line-up in 2026 with new content, channels and services,” though it didn’t cough up specifics.

On the Warner Bros. Discovery side of things, DStv risks losing twelve of its most popular channels. MultiChoice is currently engaged in discussions to extend its deal with Warner Bros, though it informed customers that these negotiations have since stagnated. And with Warner Bros. Discovery up for sale, likely cautious of disrupting any potential deals in the works, the odds of DStv holding onto its content look slim.
“While discussions between the parties continue, no agreement has been reached at this stage,” MultiChoice told customers in an email sent out Monday. “If this remains unchanged, a number of Warner Bros Discovery channels may no longer be available on DStv from 1 January 2026.”
The twelve channels at risk are Discovery, CNN, TLC, Discovery Family, Real Time, TNT Africa, Food Network, HGTV, Investigation Discovery, Cartoon Network, Cartoonito, and the Travel Channel. It’s unclear whether this deal applies to HBO content that can be found elsewhere on DStv’s channels.

DSTV is pathetic. The only reason they still exist is their monopoly with SuperSport.
