We’re always happy to see Oppo come out with something new, but this takes the cake. Oppo South Africa just unveiled the new A6x, sporting a 6,100mAh battery and, most importantly, a R2,000 price. Available in-store and online from today, 1 December, Oppo believes it’s providing some much-needed value ’round the holidays.
“At this time of year, South Africans are looking for gifts that offer real value,” said Bradley Young, head of retail at Oppo SA. “The Oppo A6x is a phone that families, students, and first-time users can rely on, at a price that’s affordable without compromising on quality.”
Oppo’s A6x will come home with you for cheap
It’s difficult to be disappointed when your expectations are already on the floor. Still, Oppo’s thrown in a 6.75in 90Hz display, though the company is being a little cagey about specifics. Don’t expect miracles from this R2,000 smartphone; in other words, prep for a bog-standard IPS LCD repping a 720p display.
Whether this one’s for you or serving as your child’s first smartphone, it doesn’t present itself (on paper) as a gamer. That’s all down to the Snapdragon 685 chipset, 4GB RAM, and 64GB of storage that we don’t doubt will hold up as a decent Netflix-watcher and WhatsApp messenger. We’ll find out more once we’ve given it a proper go.

It’s clear that Oppo blew most of the budget kitting this out with a 6,100mAh battery, compromised only by the 15W wired charger. It won’t be up to much photography, either, thanks to the 13MP camera sensor strapped to the rear, and another 5MP sensor fixed onto the front. It’ll get by in a WhatsApp video call in a pinch, we’re betting.
“Every device we bring to South Africa reflects Oppo’s belief that technology should empower and enrich lives,” continued Young. “The Oppo A6x makes innovation and quality accessible to everyone.”
