Stuff has eagerly awaited the coming of Honor’s latest ultra-durable and ultra-budget X7d smartphone, and now its time has come. At a launch event held in Joburg on Friday, Honor took the wrapper off the X7c sequel that’s headed for South Africa starting in November, featuring a 6,500mAh battery and a R4,000 price worthy of honour.
A place of Honor

Our brief time spent in the X7d’s company revealed a budget device that doesn’t feel particularly budget in-hand, though extended use may reveal shortfalls elsewhere. But with an IP65 rating and Honor’s assurances of ‘5-star Premium Drop Protection’, you can be sure it’ll survive some light flinging against the nearest wall. If you somehow manage to break it within the first six months (and you bought it in 2025), Honor will fix it for no charge.
Inside the device lives Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 chip, which feels like a big step up over the previous entry’s Snapdragon 685. There’s 6GB of physical memory under the hood, and 128/256GB of storage to work with. An IP65 rating will stop dust from getting in.
Sat above it all lies a 120Hz 6.77in LCD (1,610 x 720). As for the cameras ’round the back, a 50MP sensor leads the charge, coupled with a 2MP depth shooter. What? You didn’t really think you’d be getting a three-shooter lineup at R4,000? Flip it over to find the 5MP selfie camera lodged under the display.
Easily the most impressive bit is the 6,500mAh battery keeping it afloat, and bolstered by 35W wired charging. Honor reckons those interested in the X7d can get their hands on the budget smartphone in Desert Gold or Velvet Black colourways from 1 November 2025, starting at a R4,000 RRP.
