Any time you see Energizer’s logo emblazoned on a piece of tech that isn’t a battery, you know it’s because that device has a stonking big battery inside. It’s been true of smartphones, and now it’s also true of laptops. Avenir Telecom, a European company, has partnered with the battery specialist to launch a line of laptops.
Tabletop Energizer
The claim to fame is, of course, massive battery life. So large, in fact, that you’re not allowed to take one of the new Energizer EnergyBook Pro laptops on a plane. The FCC (and presumably other countries’ flight regulators) aren’t thrilled with that sort of battery capacity in one device.
The laptop’s internals aren’t remarkable. An AMD Ryzen 5 processor, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and 512GB of NVMe storage are among the known specs, with the major differentiators between the EnergyBook Pro 15, EnergyBook Pro XL 18, and EnergyBook Pro Ultra models being the screen size. The latter features an 18in display, but with a relatively paltry 1,920 x 1,200 resolution. So… not great.
Greatness is reserved for the (presumably) Energizer-supplied battery running the show. The Pro Ultra packs a gigantic 192Wh battery — most laptops top out at 99WH, so you’re allowed to take them aboard airplanes — that claims 28 hours of uptime in between charges. If that’s something you really need from your computer, we’re not about to stand between you and your Concerta prescription, Walter White.
We briefly mentioned that partner company Avenir Telecom is from Europe, and that’s how Energizer’s branded laptop is priced. We don’t expect it here — how would the company transport it to South Africa? — but if it was, it would cost in the region of R9,500.

So many items are not available in South Africa. Why mention them then – to make us envious of other places, India, Malaysia etc even?
As a computer shop salesman told me, SA is not a priority for manufacturers.
