Hisense has become the first company to unveil the world’s first Dolby Vision 2-equipped TV with its 85in RGB-MiniLED model. The new model was shown off at the IFA 2025 tech conference in Berlin, though many believe the upcoming 116in TV will be the brand’s grand showcase of the technology.
A Hisense of Vision
It’s been about a decade since the official release of the first Dolby Vision standard. Video tech fanatics have had a long wait for significant upgrades in picture quality software until the release of Dolby Vision 2 earlier this month. The sequel builds on the first with two versions: a base model, which enhances picture quality, and Dolby Vision 2 Max, which is reserved only for the most high-end TVs around and is “designed to utilize the full capabilities of these displays.” No specifics on what that really entails just yet.
If the first Dolby Vision was an improvement on HDR10, then the second should be an even larger improvement. The Authentic Motion feature is designed to smooth out the much-maligned jittery motion ‘blur’ that many TVs from, often dubbed the ‘soap opera effect’. It also features enhanced content intelligence, which can adjust the content based on external factors.
Hisense announced the arrival of Dolby Vision 2 with a new 85in RGB-MiniLED TV, but many believe the company is planning a major exhibition of the technology with its 116in behemoth that it first revealed at CES earlier this year. The 116-incher will run on a MediaTek Pentonic 800 chip, with a 165Hz refresh rate at 4K. Specs like that on a TV this big are no joke.
Moreover, the brand also promises to deliver an over-the-air Dolby Vision 2 update to all its RGB-MiniLED-equipped TVs. The compounding of Dolby Vision 2 with RGB-MiniLED tech may push LED closer to OLED than ever, making the debate between the two even more complicated. We’ll have to wait and see for ourselves, though. Hisense has yet to give a concrete release date for its new mega MiniLED TVs.
