Last night, Sony gave the world a deeper look at the upcoming Ghost of Yōtei in the form of a twenty-minute-long State of Play, showing off more of the PS5 exclusive’s massive open world and revenge plot. But we’ll let you dig into that for yourselves. What we’re more interested in are the limited-edition Ghost of Yōtei PS5 consoles and accessories. That’s why you’re here, isn’t it?
Ghost of Yōtei got your goat?
There are two variants — a stunning gold one depicting Mount. Yōtei and a similarly themed controller. And then there’s a black version, also featuring a custom controller, with the same artwork that’s more limited than its gold brethren — seeing as it’ll only be available for order from PlayStation directly in specific regions, a list South Africa isn’t included in. It’s tough, but personally, that gold variant pops that much more anyway.
Our inspiration for this design came straight from one of the core aspects within the game: a deep focus on exploration. This includes the hand-drawn icons Atsu marks on her map, a kintsugi-style effect pulled from her Ghost mask, and brushstrokes reminiscent of her Sumi-e paintings. The towering Mount Yōtei is included at the center of the console design to pull it all together, and Atsu is spotlighted on the DualSense controller. Each of these elements were thoughtfully woven into both the console and controller designs,” said Jason Connell of Sucker Punch.

If you aren’t willing to throw down a couple thousand bucks just to replace that ageing (but still perfectly functional) base PS5, then you’re out of luck where Ghost of Yōtei is concerned. These limited-edition models are exclusive to the Slim and Pro PS5 models, each coming with a copy of the game and a matching disc drive.
If you’re thinking of simply picking up the identical cover plates Sony has announced instead, you’re bound to be disappointed. Despite the base PS5 being the most deserving of a makeover within the Sony family, the company hasn’t budged, reserving these limited-edition cover plates for the Slim and Pro consoles as well, seemingly forgetting about the console that kicked off this generation. At least you can get a controller, yeah?
