Helldivers 2 really is the gift that keeps on giving. After enjoying a solid year on PlayStation and PC, Arrowhead Game Studios has announced that the fight for Super Earth will continue on Xbox this August, making it one of the very few PlayStation-published games to hit a Microsoft console. It’s a no-brainer for Sony, given that the game’s loyal fan base continues to grow thanks to a steady stream of free content updates, even today.
Looks like democracy’s back on the menu, boys
If you somehow missed out on all the hype during the game’s massive launch in early 2024, let’s catch you up to speed. Helldivers 2 is a third-person co-op shooter that’ll have you and up to three mates — Helldivers — squadding up to make a stand for liberty and “managed democracy” in the Galactic War — using any number of bombastic weapons available to you that’ll make Terminids in front of you go “ka-boom!”
“We know gamers have been asking for this for some time and we are so excited to bring more Helldivers into our game. We have so much more in store for the future months and years – and the more players we have the more stories we can tell! The fight for Super Earth has only just begun,” said the game’s director, Mikael Eriksson.

Helldivers 2 has already sold more than 15 million copies across PlayStation and PC, with the latter sparking a 450,000-strong player base on Steam at launch. It might just be our tinfoil hat talking, but does it not seem odd that Microsoft would withhold such a monumental announcement for its struggling game consoles until after its latest round of layoffs?
Either way, you can forget about all that by pre-ordering Helldivers 2 before its launch on the Xbox Series X/S on 26 August 2025 if you really want to. Both the standard edition and Super Citizen Edition are available, costing R750 and R1,300 respectively. Arrowhead Game Studios makes it abundantly clear that cross-play is enabled from the get-go.
