When the Springboks take on the Azzurri at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday, 12 July, you won’t need a subscription to MultiChoice’s legacy broadcaster or a ticket to see the match unfold live. The SABC is finally living up to its name, having secured the broadcasting rights to the Boks’ second test match of the season.
Oh, and it’s free on SABC Plus.
Keeping hope alive for SABC
“The broadcast agreement has been reached in recognition of the historic nature of this particular match, which will mark the 30th anniversary of the Springboks’ historic 1995 Rugby World Cup victory and forms part of the celebrations by SARU to commemorate this historic moment for the country,” the broadcaster said, noting its agreement with SuperSport.
The match will be broadcast, as usual, on SuperSport, as well as SABC 2 and SABC radio stations. Those without direct access to SABC 2 can sign up for the South African broadcaster’s streaming service, SABC Plus. Creating an account is completely free and only takes a few minutes to set up. As long as you’re signed up before 17h10 on Saturday, 12 July, when the match is set to kick off, of course.
South Africa proved to be the dominating force against Italy last weekend in its first round, securing a 42-24 victory over the Azzurri. The Boks will be hoping to replicate their success as they prepare themselves for a busy couple of weeks, with the Boks’ next challenge against Georgia taking place the following weekend.

“SuperSport is pleased to be able to contribute to the country’s celebration of 30 years of Springbok excellence since that unforgettable moment in 1995. That moment united the whole country and we are honoured to be involved in helping unite the country once more around the Springboks,” said SuperSport CEO Rendani Ramovha. “[W]e are proud to share this milestone with the most successful rugby nation in men’s Rugby World Cup history – the Springboks.”
