It’s been a rough ride for the long-awaited remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, but it seems like the game is nearly ready for release, judging by Ubisoft’s comments in its latest earnings call. The game was initially meant to be released in 2021, but suffered at least three public delays since, one of which involved handing over development to its team in Canada, which reportedly saw the game started over from scratch.
We got the Prince of Persia remake before GTA 6?
Ubisoft hasn’t quite committed to an official release date yet, but it has at least confirmed the game will be out before the company’s financial year is over. It subtly slipped The Sands of Time in amongst some other games that’ll be out between now and 31 March 2026, including Anno 117: Pax Romana, Rainbow Six Mobile, and The Division Resurgence.
If your only exposure to the Prince of Persia franchise is Jake Gyllenhaal’s laughable leading role in the adaptation of an otherwise iconic video game franchise, don’t be swayed from trying out whatever Ubisoft has cooked up here. The original 2003 title is one of Ubisoft’s best-ever, providing some extremely solid gameplay and an excellent story – all of which heavily inspired Assassin’s Creed later.

If you are familiar with the original, you’ll be glad to know that this appears to be a ground-up remake, according to “footage and presentations sent to Insider Gaming under the condition they do not go public.” That means all new animations and mechanics, a new parkour system worthy of 2026, and of course, a complete graphical overhaul.
Unfortunately, Yuri Lowenthal, who brought the voice of the original Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time to life, will reportedly not be reprising his role, with Ubisoft targeting a more “authentic” experience of the game’s setting, which involves recruiting a Persian actor for the role.
