E3 as we know it may be dead and buried, but the old congregation of the industry’s elite developers (and even a couple of new ones) hasn’t died out yet. In June alone, when we’d typically have settled in for a long weekend of news, trailers, and releases, gamers have the Summer Games Fest, the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, and now the return of Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase to look forward to.
Now what about the Outer Wilds 2?

It may not be the E3 that we remember, but seeing as all three events take place over a single weekend, it’s the closest we’ll get to a proper spiritual successor. Nintendo has earmarked 5 June to launch its next-gen console, while SGF and the Xbox Games Showcase will kick off on 6 and 8 June, respectively. It’s that last one that we’re interested in today, however, which kicks off at 19h00 SAST on the day.
“It all begins with our annual Xbox Games Showcase, bringing you a look at upcoming titles from across our first-party studios, in addition to incredible new titles from our third-party partners across the globe. This year, the show will be digital-only – our livestream will bring you everything you’ll need to know about what’s next for Xbox, no matter where in the world you’re watching,” Microsoft said.

Xbox hasn’t yet spilled the beans about the sort of games we can expect to see at the event, but it’ll likely involve first- and third-party developers alike, as well as a deeper dive into Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds 2 (not to be mistaken with the indie hit The Outer Wilds). Like the Starfield and Black Ops 6 deepdives in previous years, The Outer Wilds 2 showcase will take place after the proper show wraps up.
While Xbox may be hoping to keep any prying eyes away from the slate, Xbox Game Pass leaker extas1s reckons (via Reddit) that Gears of War Collection, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Persona 4 Remake, Ninja Gaiden 4, and Minecraft Dungeons 2 are all set to make an appearance at the showcase. extas1s’ record has proved spotty in the past, though he has a higher hit rate when discussing games headed to Game Pass.
