We’ll be the first to admit we huffed too much hopium in the build-up to PlayStation’s State of Play, which wrapped up at roughly 00h40 this morning. Where we desperately hoped to see a Bloodborne remaster grace our PS5, we got something much better. Say hello to Days Gone Remastered and a whole lot more.
The 40-minute-long show was a snapshot of what Sony has planned for 2025 and beyond. This isn’t all that’s lined up – PlayStation likes to do a couple of these things each year – but it does supply a fair idea of what we can expect, particularly in the coming months. We’ve picked a few of our favourites, like the new trailer for Borderlands 4 or whatever the hell MindsEye is, from the mind of a former Rockstar president.
You can check out the entire State of Play here.
Days Gone Remastered
The biggest and best of the lot is, obviously, Days Gone Remastered. Being too scared to release Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered Pro, Sony has opted for a safer, less lucrative, route. Gamers yet to experience Days Gone on the PS5 can do so with improved graphics, 3D audio, and DualSesne features. It’s coming on 25 April 2025, requiring a small fee to upgrade to the PS5 version if the original is sitting in your library.
Borderlands 4
More important than this new trailer for Borderlands 4 is its 23 September 2025 release date, suggesting Gearbox may have some inside track to the goings-on of Grand Theft Auto VI’s highly anticipated 2025 release. Or it’s about to pull a Horizon and release a week apart from Rockstar’s big thing. Regardless, Borderlands 4’s recent trailer is jam-packed with awesome comic violence. In a good way, of course.
Darwin’s Paradox
Coming as a bit of a surprise, Darwin’s Paradox looks like an excellent mix of Oddworld and Limbo (though with a brighter colour palette than its spiritual predecessors). Players slide into the tentacles of Darwin, an octopus taken from his home and forced to wander through a nightmarish food factory. It’s an action side-scrolling puzzle platformer at heart, and that’s all we needed to hear. Explosion Network’s new title is set to release sometime in 2025.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
Having already accidentally ‘leaked’ the 28 August release date last week, it made sense that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater – a remake of the iconic Kojima title – would appear at State of Play. We got a new trailer to go along with it, with a further look at Naked Snake and the wild journey that’ll be experienced by many for the first time. And before you ask, yes, the Snake vs Monkey minigame mode will return.
Tides of Annihilation
Tides of Annihilation is another newbie entering the shallow pool of PS5 games, except we reckon this is one of the titles being held onto for 2026. Neither the trailer nor the official blog post mention a release window. Still, this single-player action adventure from Eclipse Glow Studio looks worth the wait, telling the story of Gwendolyn – the sole survivor in an apocalyptic London setting – with some Elden Ring-level bosses thrown in for some extra torture.
MindsEye
Were this not born from the mind’s eye of former Rockstar President Leslie Benzies and published by IO Interactive, we’d dismiss this as just another sci-fi action shooter, probably unworthy of our time. We’re willing to give the story of Jacob Diaz, a man struggling with a Neuralink implant in his head, a fair shot. There’s no official release date aside from the promise of a Summer (our Winter) drop in 2025.
Saros
The Blood Moon rises once again. Saros is the next big thing to come out of Housemarque, the guys behind the excellent Returnal. It’s not yet clear whether this will be another roguelike, but we’re inclined to believe the devs are sticking with what it knows best. All we’ve got for now is a cinematic trailer that sets up this new nightmarish world of Carcosa and a 2026 release date. Sony reckons we’ll see gameplay later this year, though.
Lies of P: Overture
Arguably one of the best non-From Software Soulslikes out there, Lies of P is finally getting a follow-up in the form of a prequel DLC called Overture. Players will see the glorious world of Krat before its eventual decay, ahead of the Puppet Frenzy massacre. You’ll still pull the strings of Geppetto’s murderous puppet when the DLC lands in Summer (Winter) 2025.
