We hope Honor’s new Plus-sized MagicBook laptops make it to South Africa

Chinese brand Honor makes some excellent products but there’s one we have yet to lay hands on — its MagicBook laptop lineup. The company announced new 300-series smartphones this week but it also unveiled two new contenders in its laptop lineup.

These are only confirmed for China right now but we’re hopeful (perhaps in vain) that we’ll eventually see them on this side of the planet. Why? Huawei, formerly Honor’s parent company, has also launched laptops in South Africa and the MagicBook Art 14 saw a global release earlier this year.

This is a MagicBook

There are two new MagicBook models inbound: the X16 Plus 2025 and the X14 Plus 2025. As the names suggest, the former has a 16-inch display, while the latter has fourteen inches of optical fury. Both share some specs — a 13th-generation Intel Core i5 220H and either 16GB or 32GB of RAM. 1TB of storage is standard. WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5, and NFC are also common between the pair.

The X16 Plus offers users a 2,560 x 1,600 120Hz display with 430 nits of peak brightness in a 1.79kg frame. It’s not a lightweight but the 75Wh battery supports 65W charging — it’s probably time to get one of those nifty Anker travel chargers — and there are enough ports to let you work without resorting to a dock.

The MagicBook X14 Plus scales up its screen resolution to 2,880 x 1,800, making this the more visually sumptuous option. It’s rocking a smaller keyboard, discarding the Numpad the X16 Plus features, and a slightly smaller 60Wh battery but keeps the 65W charging speed.

Pricing isn’t known anywhere outside China but the MagicBook X16 Plus starts at R12,750 in that country. The X14 Plus starts at R12,250.
