In a bid to get more eyes on South Africa’s domestic football league, the unfortunately-named Premier Soccer League (PSL), “has made a bold, innovative move” to partner up with SuperSport to put the footballing (notice how we said ‘footballing’) spectacle on Showmax’s mobile-only Premier League tier – at no additional cost.

“This is a game-changer for South African football. Bringing Premier Soccer League football to Showmax is a huge win for the PSL and our supporters. This partnership opens new doors for fans to enjoy the sport they love, wherever they are,” exclaimed Mato Madlala, acting CEO of the PSL.
That’s in addition to the 380 Premier League games the tier was originally intended for, which sees England’s top-flight teams taking each other on every weekend. If you’re looking for a break from all that action, however, head on over to the PSL where Showmax will be broadcasting every match live, including the the Carling Knockout Cup, MTN8, and Nedbank Cup.

You will, of course, have to contend with the R70/m fee for access to Showmax’s Premier League tier – the platform’s mobile-only offering that disallows subscribers from broadcasting content to a TV, forcing your sports watching to be confined to the small 6in display in your pocket.
If that doesn’t bother you, the Betway Premiership kicks off tomorrow, 14 September, with Royal AM taking on Cape Town City at 15h00, while Kaizer Chiefs commence their campaign at 17h30 against Marumo Gallants. All sixteen teams are vying for the top spot – a position currently held by Mamelodi Sundowns, who will be looking to extend their seven-year-long reign by lifting the brand-new trophy, recently unveiled in Sandton.
