We need the new ROG Mjolnir power station right now, so thanks, Asus

Electricity-loving Marvel fans, unite! Asus, the company behind the ROG Ally and some of our favourite laptops is doing something a little different. Enter the ROG Mjolnir, a sun-sucking power station worthy of the God of Thunder himself (and any South African struggling to fend off load shedding’s advances, we guess).

Initially teased as an April Fool’s joke, the ROG Mjolnir is anything but. Asus confirmed as much just a day later, noting that the world would get a closer look at the specs keeping this hunk of metal (plastic?) — that would look right at home as a display piece — at Computex 2024.

The power of Mjolnir, in the palm of my hand

Unfortunately, the Computex expo in Taipei, Taiwan, is pencilled in for June. Until then, all we’ve got to go on is the image Asus shared on X.com (pictured above), and the news that it could “harness the energy of the sun to charge your devices,” and “illuminate your path with the light summoned by it.” You know, regular power station stuff.

Judging by the image, the ROG Mjolnir will turn up with four power outlets and four USB ports — 2x USB-A and 2x USB-C — and a display to keep track of all the power flowing out of the thing. Incidentally, the display shows a little ‘768W’ symbol on its front, so we’re guessing it’ll be more than powerful enough to take on Loki Eskom.

ROG Cap shield (Mjolnir)

A quick visit to Asus’ ROG Facebook page shows another teaser for the ROG Mjolnir, posted on 31 March, standing alongside a different product that looks mightily similar to Captain America’s shield. Asus has shared even less information about what this could be, so we’re guessing just as much as you. Could it be a speaker? A wireless charger? Considering the power-heavy theme Asus has got going, that’s where we’re hedging our bets.
