We don’t get Huawei’s Watch Pro series here in South Africa but a recent leak about an updated Watch 4 Pro makes us awfully sad that that’s not the case. Images of what looks like a near-retail version of a Space Exploration Edition of the high-end wearable have turned up online.
What isn’t explained is what makes this the ‘Space Exploration Edition’. There’s a slight visual difference — the titanium casing is a darker shade than the stock 4 Pro and there are red accents in view. Beyond that, your guess is as good as ours.
Watch 4 Pro updates?
It’s unlikely that these are confined to Chinese astronauts who have successfully completed a tour of duty on board the Tiangong space station, though that would be a super cool souvenir to have. It’s expected that these will be announced for a Chinese release shortly, with HarmonyOS 4.0 available on the device from the outset. The software introduces several new tracking capabilities but nothing that justifies that space exploration label. Guess we’ll have to wait to see what the big deal is.

The stock Huawei Watch 4 Pro features a 466 x 466 AMOLED display behind Sapphire crystal glass, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage. It launched with HarmonyOS 3.0, so the pending software upgrade over the 2023 wearable makes sense. The casing has always been aerospace-grade titanium so unless Huawei’s including bits of Long March rocket heat shield in the build, we’re a little stumped as to why this is the Watch 4 Pro Space Exploration Edition.
