MTN and Disney+ partner up to launch new R50/m mobile plan

Disney+ and MTN have joined forces to launch a new mobile plan in South Africa for R50/m. Similar to the dedicated mobile plan the streamer already offers, this won’t be some wishy-washy plan that limits its content. It’ll have all the same stuff you’d find on the platform’s regular subscription like Pixar, Star Wars and Marvel content.

So what’s different? How does free data sound?

Good news, everyone MTN customers!

Good news everyone! (Disney+)

“Disney+ joining forces with MTN gives South African subscribers another way to access our vast selection of blockbuster films, iconic series and brand-new Disney+ Original titles at home or on the move, giving more streaming choices than ever before,” says Christine Service, Senior Vice President and General Manager of The Walt Disney Company.

Any MTN subscribers that pay for the mobile plan either by adding it to their bills or using airtime to foot the bill will unlock an additional 500MB of streaming data per month. And if that isn’t enough, MTN is offering its customers access to a ‘Disney+ mobile entertainment pass’ that includes 2GB of streaming data per month for an extra R10/m. If basic addition isn’t your thing, that’s R60/m in total.

Keep in mind, this is a service designed specifically to be used on mobile devices such as smartphones or tablets, and won’t work on a TV. MTN has said the offering will include an option for “SD data-saver” streaming to stretch your data as far as possible. The company said it would offer a “feature for parents to set kids’ profiles to access age-appropriate content.”

Don’t expect this to be the only news from the MTN/Disney partnership. “Plans are in development for further Disney+ offers for MTN customers,” MTN stated.

As it stands, Disney+ currently offers a premium plan that goes for R140/m or R1,400/year, which allows for 4K streaming on a TV and four concurrent streams. There’s already a mobile plan available from Disney+ directly for R50/m, though it does not include the 500MB of free streaming data available to MTN customers in this deal.
