No matter how hard it tries, Meta just can’t shake the metaverse nor rid itself of its ties to VR. It can’t afford to, especially not after Apple struck back with its own, probably better (and far more expensive), AR headset last month. The company is locked in and will be until the Sun dies or Zuck runs out of money. Whichever comes first, we guess.
Until then, we’re locked into covering the company’s attempts to regain some of the money it’s burnt – the latest of which is the launch of Meta Quest+.
We have a couple of Questions
If the giant ‘+’ wasn’t enough of a clue, Meta’s got its own subscription service for VR games now. The idea is similar (read: ‘exactly the same’) to PlayStation’s Plus service in that it offers customers two (2) “hand-picked VR titles every month.” This is apparently simpler and cheaper than just browsing the catalogue of games, and picking out one or two yourself.
“With a combination of VR’s biggest hits, hidden gems, and back-catalog classics, this is the most affordable way to grow your library with killer content,” says Meta in its announcement blog post.
Meta has not only announced July’s stint of games – Pistol Whip and Pixel Ripped 1995 – but has announced August’s selection too. That’ll involve Walkabout Mini Golf and MOTHERGUNSHIP: FORGE that we won’t pretend doesn’t intrigue us just a tad.

Meta’s desperate for cash
The best thing we can say about Quest+ is that it’s not quite as expensive as we thought it’d be. Signing up will cost $8/m (R148) or $60/year (R1,110) and allows customers to keep the games in their library, as long as they have an active subscription. It’s worth mentioning that if you cancel your subscription and return at a later date, your games will still be there.
For those that sign up before 31 July 2023, your first month will only cost $1 (R18). The service is only available on the Quest 2 and Quest Pro models, though we anticipate the Quest 3 will be added to the list after its official launch in September.
