Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 12 series has finally reached South African shores, with prices for the device lineup starting at R5,499. How exactly does the brand want users and fans to use its newest hardware to live vivid? That’s got loads to do with the camera features available in the Redmi Note 12, Note 12 Pro, and Note 12 Pro+ 5G.
But first, a note on availability. South Africa will receive the three new Xiaomi handsets mentioned above, in either Blue or Black colourways. They’ll be available from a range of launch partners, including Mobile in Africa, Vodacom, and MTN. But what can you expect? All the delicious pixels, obviously.

The headline story is, obviously, the Note 12 Pro+ 5G’s massive 200MP ultra HD camera which, in addition to supporting sensors, offers the ability to take bigger, brighter, and better images than ever before at this price point. There are a range of other features that wouldn’t look out of place in a flagship line-up. Only, of course, that’s not the case here (in terms of price, anyway). The 6.67in 120Hz AMOLED display offers up bright, clear images to match the massive amount of pixel power residing around the back end of the phone.
With 256GB of space there’s plenty of storage and 8GB of RAM keeps the Note 12 Pro+ 5G’s processor humming along. A huge 5,000mAh battery, backed by Xiaomi’s 120W hyper charging technology, sends your phone from zero to fully-charged in just nineteen minutes. Let’s see load shedding get the better of that.

If your budget or requirements mandate a step down the ladder of awesome, you can be assured that it’s still rather excellent a rung or two down. The Note 12 Pro sports a still-huge 108MP sensor, includes the same 6.67in AMOLED display as its larger sibling and also keeps that 5,000mAh battery in the mix. What’s stepped down is the fast-charging capability. Instead of 120W, you’ll get a charge block capable of 67W. It’s still speedy enough to give Eskom the finger.
Sitting almost in the budget category, the Redmi Note 12 offers users the same battery (5,000mAh) and display (6.67in 120 AMOLED) but goes every so slightly less hard on the camera (50MP). There’s still more than enough to make your social media pop while making sure there’s still some breathing room in your budget for things like food and electricity.

Xiaomi’s newest Redmi Note 12 hardware is officially on sale, starting at R5,499 for the Note 12. If you’re keen on the Note 12 Pro, expect an RRP of R7,499 here at home, and for the full-sized and camera-happy Note 12 Pro+ 5G, a budget-beating R11,999 is the price for entry.
