It’s been a long road to the announcement of Sonos’ newest speakers. The Era 300 was first known about in August last year, with a follow-up revealing many of the range’s details earlier this month. Now, ahead of anything like an official announcement, the range has leaked more or less in full.
The Verge has had all of the details about the American brand’s upcoming speakers first. Hardly surprising, given the proximity of the two. It has completed the hat trick by publishing official images from the company, as well as American pricing for the lineup — before they’re even official.
A new Era 300 (and 100)
There are very few new details about the Era 300 (mostly) omnidirectional speaker and the Era 100 that looks to be replacing the Sonos One. That was already comprehensively known. The pricing information is brand new, however. The Era 300 is expected to fetch about $450 at retail — about R8,200 in South African currency. The Era 100 is expected to cost around $250 (R4,600).
If, as is expected, these two speakers replace the Sonos Five and Sonos One respectively, it’ll become more affordable to drop a Sonos speaker into your home. Currently, the Five costs R15,000 in South Africa while the Sonos One will set you back R5,300. Of course, that doesn’t account for any markups incurred bringing it into South Africa.
The Verge expects that Sonos will keep the Five on its roster after the March announcement and release of the newcomers. Now if the audio company will just get a move on with the announcement of its rumoured noise-cancelling headphones, that would be great.
