Now that we don’t have to worry about saving camera film or space when taking photos that go directly to the cloud, it’s easy to end up with a pile of unnecessary pictures that we’ll never display or share with anyone. That makes it hard to find the images we do think are share-worthy.
If only AI could be put to some good use here. Funny you should mention that, actually. Google is testing out a new feature that will hopefully make it easier for you to find and search for particular photos in the Photos app.

Google has replaced the Lens button on Photos with a new search shortcut on some Android devices as it tests a photo search functionality that enables quick search for photo details and reverses the search for people’s faces and objects.

The actual search feature isn’t new, it’s the functionality that has changed. If your Google Lens button has suddenly vanished from your image viewer it should be replaced with a Search button. The new search button lets you search for a photo by entering text in the search bar. You can also use the search button to search for similar-looking pictures in the gallery, making it easier to spot particular faces in the gallery.
Those who don’t have the new search button can perform similar search functions. It’ll just take a few more steps, including tapping the three dots on the menu or swiping up on the image.
The feature is only available on some Android devices during initial testing. It should see a broader release thereafter.
