The City of Tshwane will shut down yrs ICT equipment this weekend and residents have been warned to expect internet service interruptions and a possibility of not being able to buy electricity.
The City’s Internet Service Provider (SITA) plans to upgrade its Centurion Data Centre. To do so, it’ll need some electricity downtime. From 1 pm on Saturday, SITA will shut down all ICT equipment until Sunday at 2 pm.
It says this is in order to safeguard the city’s network and server equipment hosted at SITA.
Work around the internet outage
“During the downtime period, consumers will not be able to purchase any electricity from third-party vendors. Vending of electricity through internet like banking apps, ATMs, retail shops, garages, spaza shops, cellphones, will not be working,” says SITA.

However, the City has made plans for residents to buy electricity from alternative places.
Residents can buy electricity from 8 am until 2 pm on Saturday and from 8 am until 12 pm on Sunday from these customer care walk-in centres:
- Middestad
- Mamelodi Mini Munitoria
- Atteridgeville
- Soshanguve Block F
- Akasia
- Sinoville
- Centurion
- Olievenhoutbosch
- Bronkhorstspruit
- Hammanskraal

The city has urged residents to make sure they have electricity for the weekend. So try to get yours this Friday if you can. In case things don’t work out as planned.
Services that will also be interrupted include Internet access external email delivery, the city’s public-hosted websites, Virtual Private Network (VPN) access, and the city’s internet-dependent services.
