If you like free data and free UPSes, check out MTN’s Black Friday deals

MTN

You get a deal, you get a deal, everybody gets a deal

November is the month of Black Friday – the last Friday of the month when people lose their minds over middle-of-the-road deals that they (probably) wouldn’t have bought any other time of the year. When a South African network provider has deals, however, it’s probably a smart idea to check them out.

MTN has joined the fray with MTN Supersonic – for customers whose connection is at home and/or on the go. Deals began last Friday, 18 November and are running until 4 December.

SIM-only Deals

First up, we have MTN’s SIM-only deals. You have the choice of three deals: the first of which offers 50GB Anytime data for R200/m. Add another R100 and you can double the data to make it 100GB for R300/m. The third deal is a little more complicated.

For R600/m, you’ll get 30GB Anytime data, 1,600 all-network minutes, 400 SMSes per day (people stuck in the ’90s will love this) and 500MB International Roaming data.

24-month Contract Deals

If you’re looking for something a bit more long-term, there are some two-year contract deals on offer as well.

The cheaper of the two is R150/m which includes 20GB as the package’s base, with an additional 60GB that can be used on various services. 20GB can be used on streaming platforms, another 20GB is allocated to YouTube specifically and the final 20GB is set aside for music streaming, specifically.

The more expensive option sets your wallet back R200/m and follows a similar structure. There’s a 40GB base, with 80GB usable across the various streaming platforms. 40GB can be used freely, with another 40GB usable on video streaming platforms. Both YouTube and music streaming data haven’t gotten a buff, leaving it at 20GB to use for each.

Free Data

Perhaps the best part of being an MTN customer (besides the network going down for a whole day) is the free data come Black Friday. “After another long, hard year, everyone needs a win – and we are playing our part by rewarding our customers simply being on the MTN network,” said Ernst Fonternel, MTN’s chief consumer officer.

Any prepaid PayAsYouGo and Pulse customers have access to 100MB of free data every day. Well, until Friday, 2 December at least. Dial *142# or *136*2#, or use the MTN or MTN MoMo apps to claim the daily free data.

Dialling *411# or using the apps mentioned above will get you access to the latest Made4U menu with special deals. Deals like 1GB for R10 that resets every day, or 100GB for the month for R200.

If you’re an MTN MoMo customer, you can find cheaper deals than anyone out there. 1GB will go for R2 – the catch is that it’s only usable for an hour. For R1, you’ll get 300MB – also for the hour. An extra R1 will net 3 minutes of talk-time – also only usable for the hour.

Getting that UPS

If a free UPS is on your mind – we’ve got you covered. The catch is: a 24-month home internet contract is required to get it. Two promotional deals here come with a free UPS (valued at R800) and a free router. The first is a R700/m deal that gives customers 1TB of Anytime data with a 5G router (and the UPS).

The next is an R400/m contract, with uncapped limits and a 10Mbps speed – including a 4G router (and the free UPS).

Honestly, if all you’re here for is a free UPS, we don’t blame you. But your hard-earned cash may be better spent just buying your own UPS – one that costs more and has better specs. Unless you really need home internet, then you can’t go wrong here.

Going Supersonic

Keeping in line with the home internet theme, Supersonic – an internet provider under MTN’s network also has a Black Friday special of its own. There isn’t a free UPS, but you can get your first month free with Supersonic when you use the code “UnlockSupersonic”. Just don’t forget to smash that like button and subscribe!

We’ll start off with the SIM-only deals. For R100/m, you’ll get 10GB, 25GB for R200/m, and 50GB for R300/m. The data here isn’t limited to certain services or times of the day. Throw in R400 and get a MiFi router as a once-off payment. On-the-Go TopUp bundles with the same prices and data rates are also available.

If faster speeds are more your thing, Supersonic is running a special with uncapped fixed LTE with a free-to-use 5G router (which means you have to give it back when you stop paying) for R600/m.

These deals started last week Friday, 18 November, and are running ’til 15 December.

Business Deals

If you’ve got business to conduct but also want a good deal, these are what’s on offer for the working professional on a budget.

If you’re looking to pick up a new phone, MTN’s Made for Business has three on offer.
