Meta attempts to lure users into Horizon Worlds with a concert featuring a virtual Notorious B.I.G.

Notorious BIG Meta Horizon Worlds

One of the strangest Venn diagrams has to be Notorious B.I.G. fans who also spend time in Horizon Worlds. Horizon, in case you missed it, is Meta’s crack at that metaverse idea everybody used to talk about. There must be enough of them, or else Mark Zuckerberg is out to capture a whole new market.

That’s because, on 16 December, a “hyper-realistic” recreation of Biggie will perform at a concert inside Horizon Worlds. If you’re keeping score at home, that means someone will play his greatest hits on Spotify while a computer model pretends to be him. But in VR, so it’s special. Right?

It’s not just a ‘performance’ by the big guy that fans can look forward to. There’s a whole Biggie experience planned, including a narrated recreation of his neighbourhood. It would have been the artist’s 50th birthday this year, which is the official reason why this is taking place.

Actual living artists will participate in the concert as well. Diddy, The Lox, Latto, Nardo Wick, Lil’ Cease, DJ Clark Kent, and Eli Fross are among the confirmed performers. Attendees at the live event will need one of Meta’s Quest headsets in order to check it out. If you happen to miss the Horizon Worlds live experience, it’ll be possible to catch up on Meta Quest TV.

If you’re like most of the planet and don’t have one of Meta’s virtual reality headsets, there’s also a 2D version of the event taking place. It’ll stream on the official Notorious B.I.G Facebook page on the day.

This concert isn’t the first time a deceased artist was brought back for one more crack at the stage. Performing as an avatar in Meta’s Horizon Worlds isn’t quite as difficult as getting a hologram of Tupac working on a stage at Coachella but maybe that’s the point. If this works out, expect loads more artists to come back from the grave.
